About Me

About The Hopeful Traveler

Sailing in Seattle, 2012.

My name’s Tamara and I’m a 30-year-old marketing professional who works in the arts. I’m also an L.A. native currently living in Colorado, which means I spend eight months of the year indoors, so as to avoid all possible contact with snow. While burrowed into my studio apartment, I watch more television than could possibly be healthy, read a lot of books, and fantasize about travel to far-off places.

I’m also a many-times-over failed blogger, which is pretty silly considering I have a B.A. in English and an M.A. in journalism, and I make my living creating all manner of publications for my really cool job. I usually place the blame on the fact that I spend my week immersed in words for work, which makes me want to just zone out and unplug my brain the moment I get home. Plus, I’m kind of a perfectionist when it comes to my writing, and it’s really hard for me to take a relaxed, organic approach to blogging, so I usually give up before I’ve barely even begun.

But, honestly, those could just be excuses and I could also just be lazy… Who’s to say? I’m going to try to not be so lazy on this, my millionth attempt at maintaining a blog, though. After spending my 20s focused on building a solid foundation for my career, I’m finally in a place in my life where I can indulge in some international adventures. I recently took my first solo trip abroad, officially kicking off the traveling phase of my life—and I’m so excited to share my stories. I’m also an obsessive planner, so my hope is you can benefit from what I’ve learned through my insanely detailed research!

ALL THAT BEING SAID… I make no guarantees as to the continuity of this thing. I assume my life will have some other events worth noting between then and now (at least I hope so?!), and maybe I’ll want to share that, too. So…you just get ready for it.
